Swarf Recovery

Swarf can present many challenges to offshore operations and has the potential to be costly. When swarf is returned downhole it increases the risk of damage to equipment which could result in NPT. Additionally, the handling of swarf at surface presents a HSE risk to the personnel involved. Coretrax endeavour to minimise personnel exposure and encourage a safer working environment through the design of their swarf recovery tools.

CX-SRM

Ensuring that the drilling fluid is clean and free from metallic debris is essential in extending the life of rig equipment and reducing NPT caused by swarf build up. The Coretrax CX-SRM is a high strength swarf recovery magnet which is placed in the mud return line, shaker discharge or header box to recover swarf and metallic debris from the drilling mud, preventing it from returning downhole.  

The CX-SRM can collect upto 30kgs of metallic debris which has not been recovered by the downhole tools - including the finer particles - to ensure that the drilling fluid returned downhole is as clean as possible. This reduction in swarf downhole reduces the risk of damage to drillstring components, shaker screens and drill bit.

Swarf Recovery String

The presence of swarf in the BOP cavities can present a risk to personnel when cleaning the BOP’s and can compromise the BOP test. Therefore it is imperative to minimise the amount of debris in the cavities to ensure smooth operations. 

The Coretrax swarf recovery string combines the technology of our SP Magnets with high pressure jetting to achieve maximum swarf recovery from the BOP cavities. Whilst running in hole the BOP Jetting Sub utilises high pressure jets to dislodge any debris from the cavities, the Coretrax SP magnets recover the metallic debris to surface.
